Umpteen shades of red and yellow
Floating in the dusky air
Like a pungent love affair
Sometimes hot, sometimes mellow
Maple leaves kept flying by
Crossing hills and giggling streams
Pushed ahead by muffled screams
Of winds rushing low and high
One little leaf painted red
Along with his soaring friend
Singing songs in soft ascent
Danced along, moving ahead
Together climbing tall mountains
And kissing peaks rising high
They waved greetings to the sky
And played by gushing fountains
They chased pretty butterflies
And floated by river banks
Cooing to the breeze their thanks
With trees waving their high-fives
Finally, they came to rest
Upon a tomb small but calm
And shedding a tear like a psalm
Hoping that they lived their best
**Had drafted this poem in the Fall of 2010, but finally posting it today for One Shot Wednesday :)… THE place for poetic awesomeness! **

Heheh, a pungent love affair … I’ve had some of those. This whole piece is quite beautiful, but I really love the image of shedding a tear like a psalm. And trees waving high-fives … Man I want to go outside and high-five a bunch of trees RIGHT NOW! Sadly, I live in the desert. And Cacti high-fives … well, ouch.
Kavita said:
Oh my my, Az!! PLEASE wear your baking mitts before waving high-fives at those cacti!! 🙂
But me is sooo happy you liked this poem, darling… and those pungent affairs.. hmm… (cough cough) 😉

Behold the beauty of nature! There’s nothing quite like Autumn in its fullest – the rain of golden leaves, the smell of others burning, nature’s final blooming beauty, before the long fall. Ah, I do wish this winter would leave us already. It’s been too long in staying. But then…I find myself saying that every year. Lovely work, Kavita!
Kavita said:
hehehe.. you seem to be REALLY annoyed about Winters, Chris… makes me super glad to see that you liked this Fall poem so much…

Some story here! I had started floating with that red one enjoying the wind.
Becoming thoughtful at the site of that tomb- that’s typically me.. Thinking.. brooding..
For once I thought you did that image- then it occurred you could do much vibrant ones with more intensity.. wanna see some of those.. 🙂
Hugs xoxox
Kavita said:
I hope you landed safely after all the floating about, Liv!! MWAAAHH!!!
You make me very happy about this poem, girl…
And the image…gee.. I loved it (DeviantArt ofcourse)… but now I am motivated to shoot/click some of ’em myself!!! Ugghh.. Fall is so many months away!!!
Right now, it’s all snowpix !! 😀
Hugs right back at ya, babes!!
Olivia said:
Oh yeah, I did- the tombstone had all the right balance of energies for me to stop by without tumbling over!
Fall poems make me go happy anyways! I associate those red maple leaves (I hope I got that right) with approaching winters. Some shapes are special to you- this one has been since childhood- color- unusual shape and all!!
That’s so typically me!
I did see a couple of Devian Art Images- I’m kinda wanting to experiment myself- let’s see how soon..
Send some snow- I could slide a bit around.. 🙂
Kavita said:
You want snow?!?!?!??! hahahah.. some of my friends here will be MORE THAN HAPPY to send you some… but I kinda snow myself! So, I’ll send you just a wee bit (selfish little me ;))
And yes… those orange-red maple leaves… they are kinda the definition of Fall to me… they have such a romantic feel attached to them…
Oohh.. and DeviantArt totally ROCKS!! Some day, I hope to put something up there myself… (sigh).. some day!
Olivia said:
AMEN!!
Someday very soon.. I know this! The 1st time I saw those images, it kinda pinched me somewhere in my mind.. I have been doing all such things even before I could write. Sketching, mixing, blending- I mean images- not a food processor!!
I guess you are the only who loves snow other than me- rest all of my friends whine about it!! Even a teeny bit would do- I’ll showcase it in the freezer and feel good about it just looking at it. It’s darn warm- the ice would melt if I stack it else where- since you are sending only a pinch of it..!!
I am not selfish while sending these- Hugs xoxoxoxoxoxox
Kavita said:
Aww…you are the SHWEETESHT!!!! And just for being so sweet, I will send you MORE!!
xoxooxoxoxxox (packed with snow) 🙂

You are a real darling- without a shade of doubt!!!

The solemn part of the narration, was the most profound and most wise. Live life to the maximum of what it could be lived before its your turn to live out there in the tomb, cold and dead.
Nice lines.

Beautiful poem. Feels very cinematic, following a billowing leaf on this course, resting only at the grave. The great thing, for me at least, is the fact you chose to have a fallen leaf as the central motif, and none of its life has been told to the reader, almost like a nobility in death, or passing. On a simpler note, great imagery, perfectly formed, and wonderful autumnal colours. I really enjoyed it
Kavita said:
hehehe… Cinematic, eh?! I take that as a wonderful compliment, Bill (?) .. thanks a bunch for your visit and your kind words of appreciation here…
I really like the observation you made about this poem… that about the fallen leaf being the central motif… yes… it is indeed that nobility in (its) death that I wanted to highlight here…it was something like a message really… something to make myself feel that when my time comes, I too feel like what this leaf might have felt.. proud and content!
Am really happy to hear your insights here, my friend… made me feel that someone actually felt the same thing as I did while I was writing the poem… and I sincerely thank you for that…
Have a great day ahead!

Absolutely beautiful diction in this! You’ve found the very essence of nature and migrated it into words. I feel inspired to write more, as I’ve been quite lethargic towards the notion lately!
