Under the old bridge
where broken dreams hibernate
with moss growing over
and a drying river limping by,
is a dragon being spawned
– ready to spew fire
at the first foot
that tries to trample it-
It feeds on
the same broken dreams,
growing stronger
with every passing moment
waiting to unleash itself
on the vacant eyes
that saw through it
and refused to believe
in its fiery existence
Once a laughing-stock,
it’ll now bemock the fatuous vanity,
thrash the crazed absurdity
and mark its territory
under the same old bridge
of a stereotypical world…

De-myth-ified indeed…breaking down the dragon to the modern and draining reality…I see a loss of fantasy here, a loss of imagination…the beast being those youthful bursts of creativity, yearning to break free from the bondage of the world that refuses to accept them. But that’s me. Lovely One Shot Kavita! Bring on the dragon and the dreams, and let them both roar.
Kavita said:
Oh… that interpretation couldn’t have been any better, Chris!!! Wheeewww! Thank you ever so much for understanding what I was trying to say here… you are awesome!!!
And yes, cheers to all those emerging dragons, and broken dreams… may they rise like never before!! 😀

If those broken dreams won’t be fixed one way, just have to try another. Can be hard in the stereotypical world though, that was a very nice finishing touch.
Kavita said:
You can say that again, Patt… in a world full of mechanical brains, originality takes a beating, and it needs to fight real hard to come out successful… but yes, it’s worth the effort… no?! 🙂
Glad you liked this one, my friend..

I like your use of the dragon as a symbol of one’s yearning for creativity and freedom…in the Chinese astrology, it is the luckiest and most powerful animal.
and lovely image by the way~
Kavita said:
Oh.. indeed! I had forgotten about the dragon being symbolic of good luck in Chinese astrology… that’s awesome… and adds so much more meaning to my poem… thanks a ton for the insight, Heaven.. very kind of you… and yes, I am VERY happy you liked this poem-pic so much…

I like the idea of broken dreams hibernating. They aren’t dead, just waiting.

Indeed they are!! 🙂 Glad you liked this concept, poemblaze.. I appreciate your comments here..

lovely piece kavita…we slay our fantsies far too early in life…keep chasing those dragons…smiles.

Indeed, Brian! But as you said, nothing will keep us dreamers from dreaming (and chasing those dreams) 🙂

I love it Kavita. The analogy is lively and well made, the images, both colorful and serious. Your photo editing job is creative, vivid and perfectly suits the piece. Really enjoyed it. Everyone is putting up their best tonight, it seems.

So nice of you to say that, Joy…. (many hugs and many MANY thanks)!!!! 😀

I really like your word selection, such as “a drying river limping by” and “where broken dreams hibernate”. Hopefully the broken dreams will awaken and the narrow streams of consciousness that flow below the old bridge will open up new channels of understanding and acceptance.
Kavita said:
Amen to that, tolbert… Originality needs the smallest of crevices to seep through.. and then it will spread like wildfire!
Thanks for liking this piece, my friend.. I always look forward to your words here… and they are much appreciated!!

To me this speaks of a new generation of rebels determined to make their mark on the world, within new parameters and new societal norms.
Kavita said:
YESSSS!!! It is so, Elizabeth! And I hope the new thoughts and fresh ideas make their way into this otherwise old and deaf world…

So many fine imges in this one…I really loved the opening stanza…it set the tone for me to the rest of the poem.

You have to realize that I am learning from the best, Charles.. 🙂 (aka YOU)
But thanks a bunch for your kind words.. means a great deal to me..

We need to coax the dragon out of one another. We are creators, we should not listen to nay sayers. The child inside was more correct that the grown woman beat down by society. Screw society lets be dragons 🙂
Kavita said:
Amen to that, my friend!! WOOHOOOO!!!

But Kavita,…. that’s the price one has to pay for being original.. world won’t accept .. and why should it.. when it thrives on ..what Ayn Rand termed as ‘Second handers’.. but then being original, and being creative and moving ahead with a calm struggle is a lot more beautiful experience… trust me.. talent will have to pay the price..and yet shine and smile standing amidst the scattered pieces of broken dreams…choice is enjoying the glorious mysteries and glow that lights up the inner space.. or sulk for not getting noticed… better to enjoy …
Well, my one dream is yet to be fulfilled..no, its not yet broken.. that’s your visit to bless my 300th .. here:

Kavita said:
I agree, Rameshji.. we frequently have to pay a price for displaying originality.. but then again, it’s all worth it! 🙂
And your reference to Ayn Rand was simply PERFECTION!! Gosh.. how I LOVE her works!!
Thank you for your inspiring and insightful words here, RS… they always stand out on a higher plane… again, THANKS!!

on complete tangent i think we do need to get back to the days of the dragons 🙂 how mythical and adeveturous it would be 🙂
lovely poem I have missed a couple i dont know why ..
Kavita said:
hahahahah…. LOVED the way you soared into that mythical world… I could almost imagine you going all dreamy eyed and all, with face cupped in your palm.. hehehhe

Thanks for your ever sweet and encouraging comments, Bikram…

I think long ago some types of dragons existed, if they didn’t… how would man know how to have drawn them?
Love the atmosphere in this, the power, even though it’s a baby and is starting new life, the determination iand will is all there. A very lovely read, thank you.!
Kavita said:
Awww… your words made my day brighter, daydreamer…thank you ever so much!!! Yes indeed, may the baby dragon grow to become a ball of fiery originality!! What say?! 😉

Loved the opening few lines.. the images of the dreams hibernating and a dragon being spawned. It even gave a feeling of power, like I’m powerful already, so don’t you try to stamp me. 🙂 I’d be a li’l nervous for stamping a dragon anyways I think 😉 Thanks for sharing, K.
Kavita said:
Aaw.. thanks, Leo!
Now don’t we know of quite a few that poke their noses around where not required… or those that think that they can overpower anything/anyone… it’s those foolish ones I was referring to here 🙂

Very powerful one K. This idea of shattering what is thought of you, and coming out far ahead of what is expected is wonderful. But it always does seem to leave that sour taste. I think your piece really captures this. It also got me thinking of the song Under The Bridge by the Red Hot Chili Peppers (for no other reason then the use of the words under the bridge.)
Cheers,
M
Kavita said:
LOL… RHCP, eh?! NICE!! I get it though 🙂
But on a more serious note, yes, leaving that well of biases and expectations, and soaring into the skies of new hopes and dreams – that’s quite a challenge! And I hope we successfully manage to LIVE our dreams… 🙂 What say?!
Thanks for your insights here, my friend…. they are truly treasured!

This speaks to me of the strange fascinati on of licking one’s wounds or replaying injuries that grow greater with each telling, until we create a beast capable of devouring our future. Better to breath life into our hope, spawn fresh dreams,.and venture out from under the bridge to mark new territory despite our brokenness
Really enjoyed it Kavita. It got me thinking and remembering old wounds I nutured for much too long..
Kavita said:
Aaahh… we do have a habit of allowing those old wounds to never heal, ya know… it’s time we let them though.. else they can only lead to more harm.. whew!
Besides, when we see the world with clearer eyes, the wounds heal by themselves.. and suddenly, everything appears so much more livable! No?
I am glad you liked this poem so much, Joanna… I really loved your interpretation of it… thank you so much, dear friend… your words here meant a great deal to me!
