Your dancing flicker
is like some shrill laugh
Echoing
in the pitted caverns within my mind
Your faint glow
is like a moaning ghost
Mocking
me at my accomplishments now dead
Your intoxicating aroma
is a buttermilk dream
Cascading
down unexplored gorges of my heart
Your seared wick
is that unreachable goal
Taunting
me to feel it while it’s red-hot
Your waxen smoothness
is my warm desire
Evaporating
slowly into a grey nothingness
Your annealed remnants
are my silenced dreams
Struggling
desperately for another vain life
**Posted for One Shot Wednesday (Golden Jubilee week… yaaayyy)!! Seriously, if you are craving for some terrific poetry form the heart, you GOTTA check this place out! You are destined to love it! **
You present vivid metaphors to convey these emotions.
aahh.. you think??? Thank you so much, my dear friend…
Reminds me of the old Blue Oyster Cult song… “I’m burning for you…”
Aawww.. I am flattered, Eric… thank youuuu!!
xoxooxx
A beautiful, filling poem that uses metaphor so well.
Lady Nyo
Gee… thanks, Lady Nyo… now that made me feel terrific about this poem… (humble bow..)

Oh Yeah Kavita…
You’re On Fire!!!!
I loved this Flaming Poem.
Woohoo…. thank you, my dear Mr. G!! Those li’l candles make me think real hard, I’m tellin’ ya!! *sigh*
well now…your metaphors are showing a bit risque…smiles. oh i feel…happy one shot!
HAHAHAHAHAH…seriously, Brian!??! I never thought of it that way.. I assumed this was like the most morose poem EVAH!! π
But me is really glad to see it interpreted this way too… niiiiice! Thanks, B… π You rock!!!
weighty words today Kavita.
Hmm… I knoooww.. I have no clue what came over me to write this! I just saw the candle burn next to my washbasin, and was prompted to write this poem… can you beat that!??! ? π
The third stanza…WOW…I love it. (This poem belongs in the Wax Museum! )
hahahha… thanks, Tim!! But hey!! I haven’t “copied” it from any celebrity, mind you!! π
“Your intoxicating aroma
is a buttermilk dream
Cascading
down unexplored gorges of my heart” – that is AMAZING! loved the whole poem, as well. great work π
Oooohhh… thanks, Anthony.. I really appreciate your encouraging words here…
xxxxx
“,,,buttermilk dreams…” I love that. And I was going to say this was a bit steamy, as brian did , but I guess, to paraphrase the old line, sometimes a candle is just a candle…some great word use in this, Kavita.
Aww.. now now, Joy… I am flattered… completely!!! Thank you ever so much for your ohh-so-sweet comments..
But yea… here, this candle was just a candle… or maybe not… π
And the candle burns down to nothingness after it has so intrigued us with it’s light, warmth, and allure…. I love the descriptive nature of this, Kavita, and how you connected it to self…. and the photo is also amazing.
I honestly believe that even the most mundane objects around us have so much to teach us.. don’t you think so too, Heartspell?
Am really glad you appreciate this piece so much, sweetie… thanks a ton for your kind words of understanding and encouragement… you really are a very inspiring person to have around!!
xoxoxoxo
Powerful and full of vision.
You are truly a gifted poet
Geee… (blushing)… thank you a million times over, Richard…. Very kind of you to say that!!
xoxoxox
Wow a tad darker today, really like the “evaporating, slowly into grey nothingness” line, just stuck with me, nice write.
You bet, Pat!! No idea why the darkness prevailed today… grrr… But never mind.. there are some days.. and then there are some days.. no?! π
Glad you liked this poem, dearie… thank you sooo much!!
I think you captured “it’s all gone up in smoke” better than anything I’ve seen or heard. Beautifully written. Gay
Ohhh my!! And your comment, my dear Gay, was like sweet music to my ears!! Thank youuuuuuu!!!
xoxoxoxo
And melted away is your candle in the wind…
*sigh*… it did.. didn’t it, Kimmie??!
I hope I can resurrect it..
a nice title, your words and picture always complement each other
what do you do, which one is the first to draw inspiration from, to meld other, picture or words?
Aww.. gee… thanks, Harish!!
Well, 99% of the time, the words come first to me.. but in the case of the magpie, it’s *usually* the other way around…
But either ways, what comes last and takes A HECK OF A TIME, is the title! π
Si I am really REALLY happy you liked this title.. that compliment certainly means a great deal to me indeed!!
xoxoxoox
You had the image machine cranking on this. Very visual, and as always, grat word choics and your lines are to be studied. Great read.

Your intoxicating aroma

There you go again.. word- play, metaphors and intensity! This is what makes me go in dark and go dark..
That’s the only calming stanza.. I felt!
You go girl!!

Love the metaphor and the imagery, Kavita…great as always!
Hugs π
Aww… I am flattered, Eclipse.. honestly!
Thank you so much, dear friend…
Amazing metaphors! I’m left wondering if the candles I burn are starting to resemble the “life” of my side business… I hope not. π
hahahhahaha.. I too hope not, Rachel.. GOSH! You sure have a way with words!
Thanks for the appreciation, sweetie… mwahh!
oh i love the buttermilk dreams and the mixture between flaming hot, waxen smoothness and traces of hopelessness..very nice and multilayered
hehehe… I see you melting into this one, Claudia.. thanks for all those lovely words you have for me…
Hugs n Love!
I love this poem a lot Kavita.. Perfect for 50..
Someone is Special

Have a wonderful 2012, my friend!
What a fantastic write! This is one of my favorites of yours.
Whooaaa! Thanks, mama Z… LOVE YOU for saying that!!!
xxxx
Yikes! Both lovely and troubling.
ahaaa.. now that’s a superbly interesting comment, Madeleine! Exactly what I was hoping to see for this poem.. thank you, my friend…
These are amazing metaphors, my friend. Love the image of cascading buttermilk dreams…smooth, flowing. (Although I confess, I’m not crazy about buttermilk).
hush…. here’s a secret for you, V… I got inspired by the Buttermilk Falls in NY (that I had recently visited)… and while writing this poem, I totally felt compelled to use that inspiration π
And hey… it’s okay to not be crazy about something… cuz we have lotsa things to be crazy about anyway!! hehehe
Thanks for the kind and encouraging words here, gal… Lots of love!!
I could feel hot wax on my palm as I read… taunting is the right word… now to find me a candle to play with. ;] Wonderful again Kavita. :] xx
heheheh… now now, girl.. with all your praises and lovely words, you are making me blush..
THANKOOOOOOO…. π
Ooo, some beautiful bits of language here, “Your annealed remnants
are my silenced dreams”…annealed, now there’s a word that doesn’t get used often enough. Nicely done. Descriptive use of metaphor, and some rather striking imagery in that. Darker, but still beautiful for it.
heheh.. sometimes, my imagination gets dark.. but I like it when it explores even those rather unpleasant areas as well.. π Call me weird!
Thanks for all your insights, Chris.. they mean a great deal to me! And as for the English language, I am in love with it, and am constantly trying to embrace her with my entire being!! π
Beautiful poem! I love the vivid (but dark) images π
Me likes darkkkk.. π
Thanks, Janna dear… glad you enjoyed this one!
“Your waxen smoothness
is my warm desire
Evaporating
slowly into a grey nothingness”
…is my favorite part. Excellent imagery of the candle combined with the similes to other images. Great work! π
π Thanks, Matt.. I am extremely pleased that you liked it so much!!!
Exquisite wordplay…definitely a gem piece of writing.
Thank you sooo much, Dasun…. VERY glad you liked this so much!
Lovely poem!
π Thank you, Ayala!! β€
Ahh chasing dreams. That terrible habit everyone seems to have. Don’t you hate it when you awake from a great dream only to realize that you will probably never achieve it again? This poem really conveyed that to me.
Oh yes, Mark! It really is quite awful when one realizes that that chase is futile! I like your interpretation of this poem, my friend.. your views are very interesting and insightful! Thanks for stopping by…
look, no rhyme! You know, I think I prefer your free verse piece with no end rhyme in some ways, Kavs. Taking teh straight-jacket off a little. This is a gem
Warmest
Yaaaayy…thanks Luke sweetheart!! I too am beginning to like my free-verse jots these days… but really, what a sucker for rhymes I am !! Duhhhh
Neva mind that… me is glad you liked this, my friend…
Warmest hugs!!
Dark deep – burning at the inner core,, WOW I found myself lingering over some of the stanza’s and re-reading them , you are on fire girl,,, really great writing here. It is the kind of passion that speaks to the passionate “self” of others male or female.
joanny
Whoooaaa!! This coming from you means the WORLD to me, Joanny!! Thank you ever so much (From the deepest corners of my heart) !!
I am really happy you liked this one so much, sweetie… thanks again! Yup, passion speaks… and only fellow-passionate can understand this language indeed… π
xoxoox
your word choices were excellent
the poem will not soon combust
thanks for the One Shot
Mwwaahhh for those kind words, girl…
Hugs and Kisses!
Metaphors, similes…you have adorned this piece with the ornaments that have made it shine. Great piece as usual. π
Love and regards~Sayandeep
Whooaa!! That’s a huge compliment, Sayan.. thankooooo!!!!
Hope you’re doing good…
