Despite all the promises made
Of never leaving the other
To him a farewell she bade
For her, he was just another
With his desire torn and ground
And a heart like crusted earth
He chose to listen to the sound
Of his whims for what it’s worth
Beside a blooming clover’s toe
Now patiently he waits
Eyes full of jilted lover’s woe
And fenced in memories’ gates
With purplish oceans of belief
A flower he softly holds
Hoping to heave sighs of relief
As love in time unfolds
But as the tides of seasons ebb
And strength begins to fray
In his mind, grows a thin cobweb
Of dreams and faces gray

Love, delusion, hope, longing- perhaps a little bit of deceit?
So many shades put together in one poem. A lovely tale told- a little sad maybe.. But then Happily Ever Afters are so rare and misplaced..
I enjoyed moving up n around with the words.. Oh so dreamily expressed π

Your line “And fenced in memoriesβ gates” is amazing!! And the ending is also sadly beautiful. I really enjoy the idea of things graying out. It can be taken a couple ways (as in loosing its actuality in memory or as the people grow older he changes his perception but doesn’t loose the love). Great work!
Kavita said:
You know, Mark.. each time you give me an indepth interpretation on any of my poems, I become more and more certain that if is anyone who truly understands what I write, you are DEFINITELY one of them… And I humbly and sincerely thank you for that..really!
When I wrote that last line in the poem, I really wanted to leave it vague… well, just as the word suggest, I wanted to leave it “gray”… not suggesting he forgot about her…not suggesting he became a lunatic.. but just some fuzzy/changed image… and you read it EXACTLY that way!! GOSH! THANK YOU…
You have no idea how happy this makes me!! π (see that grin? Yea…well.. take a guess)

Hope you are an Indian by origin. I have read a lot of poems in many Indian languages that rhyme perfectly, adheres strictly to some meter and are stunning in their themes. But I have not seen many English poems like that, as it is tougher to make verses here, when compared to Indian languages. Yours is one of the kind. I read your poem once, then again and again. Your lines are still resonating in my mind.
Would like to say this ‘A thing of beauty is a joy for ever’. Your name ‘Kavita (poem)’ suits you well!
Kavita said:
This really is a huge compliment, Nith… thank you ever so much..
I don’t think I have ever tried writing a poem in Hindi.. maybe some day, I will try that as well.. would LOVE to!
And as for this poem, I am SUPER happy you liked it so much… thanks again, my friend… I really appreciate your words here…
