Once upon a time
There lived a wooden heart
He beat on with a thump
Tough as a stalwart
But time became his foe
Rings revealed his age
His splinters went their way
Brimmed with rampant rage
After many wars
When mildew he had earned,
A match of spite was struck
And heart-o-wood was burned
**Posted for G-Man’s Friday Flash 55… If you’ve got a story to tell in EXACTLY 55 words, I suggest you pay him a visit! 🙂 **
Written as a ballad and it reads so well. Excellent.
Yaayy.. thanks for the appreciative words, Anthony.. means a lot to me!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Fire can be so devastating. Luckily new trees grow.
Another wonderful writing, Kavita!!
xoxo

Oh…I like the direction you took this poem.:-)
Oohh.. thanks, C… and your comment really gets me thinking about your peace preference… (jus’ kiddin’ ;-))
Hugs to you, my friend
This was grate and fanciful.
Gee…thanks a ton, Sam…
I like the idea of him wearing his mildew as a badge. Maybe he will grow back and live happily ever after?!
I certainly hope he does, Aleza… wheww!! We want MORE TREES!! 🙂
Nature is a cruel Mistress..
Loved your 55 Kavita.
You have a very creative mind My Friend
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
Aaarrgghh.. isn’t she now, Mr. G!?! So right you are, my friend… Nature can play funny tricks on our minds.. no?
Glad you enjoyed this quiry piece of my creativity, G… you are THE BESTEST!!!! And thank you for your most encouraging words here.. I really appreciate it!!
Have a fabulous weekend yourself, my friend!!
(hugs)
This is really cool!
heheheh… thanks, Mama Zen… a weekend mind went dark ways.. 🙂
I enoyed it. Wooden heart meets its fate.
You can say that again, Jagdish!! This heart of wood sure met his fate..
Glad you enjoyed this fictional piece, my friend… 🙂
whew…sounds like the guy had been thr )ough hell and back…a heart of wood…many wars…mildewed (which alludes to it getting wet or damp) then set fire….i wonder ar the catching fire can be read as either destructive or empowering…
You bet, Brian!! This guy started off with love, then bred hatred inside him with age, and after having destroyed everyone that came close to him, when was covered with scars of the successes of war, somebody just decided to burn him down (out of spite)…
Such was his sad story… so yes! He sure went thru’ hell, and into hell too…
When I wrote this, fire to me meant destruction… a complete “flash” of a 55! 😉
I am scared!
A heart of wood.. and then burnt? That definitely hurt!
That eye in that image made the story seem real.
It surprises me how well you weave stories in fiction- I gotta really know how to do that! Haven’t tried my hand on fiction. Till I don’t I’ll keep myself awestruck reading yours!!
May the guy rest in peace even if he maybe in hell 🙂
Hugs xxx
Aww.. girl, I am flattered! 🙂 Happy you enjoy the fictional pieces I manage to scribble… yaaaayyyy!! Keep encouraging me, and soon you will find me bugging you with more of these 🙂
And yes, I hope the guys rests in peace (at least after death)… cuz his life was miserable alright.. whheww!
LOVED the last line of your comment, girl… (cuz he sure is bound to go to hell.. teeheehee)
LOTSA HUGS, sweet lady!!!

From the ashes of our old perceptions and beliefs, like the Phoenix, we rise from our own ashes: born anew, more true to ourselves and authentic.
Well done, Kavita!
Aww.. thanks for that splendid interpretation, Genie Dragon… your insights and encouraging words are invaluable to me!!
I hope we can imbibe some of those Phoenix-like qualities ourselves… like rising anew, with a fresh set of beliefs…with a more open mind!! Wouldn’t that be awesome!?!
So glad you enjoyed this poem, my friend.. thanks again..
Hi Kavita: I often look at the poems recently posted on Word Press when I post one of mine. This is a nice poem. I’m interested in the idea of ‘poetic knowing’—you may already be there. (And the title of your blog sums up perfectly how I feel about my poems.)
Hello from New York!
Well well well.. hello back from the Big Apple! 🙂
Glad you came by my blog.. and good to see that you liked this poem…
This is just my way of being part of the world that I do not get to “meet” with… aka the virtual world..
Poetry writing is fun, and to me, it’s a great mode of expression as well… so, all in all, it’s a great experience 🙂
Hope you enjoy this journey yourself!
Ohhh!! Great kavita ma’am…. Its really great… Tho short by words But i t says as if a tree has a HUMANITY… Words from a burnt tree…..

And yes, will definitely be stopping by to read your poem… will be more than happy to!
P.S: please don’t call me “ma’am”…will ya? I feel like an old strict professor, which I am certainly not .. hehehe 😀
You are masterful in your use of extended metaphor. I really like this.
Thank you thank you THANK YOU, Mary dear!! I am flattered!! And definitely ENCOURAGED by your words….
Loadsa hugs!!!
The death of a tree. Very well written Kavita! A sad end for such an old noble tree with a big heart;-
Once upon a time
There lived a wooden heart
He beat on with a thump
Tough as a stalwart
and then ;-
After many wars
When mildew he had earned,
A match of spite was struck
And heart-o-wood was burned
I really like the image you have chosen for this piece too!

Wooden Heart… How did you get the idea? It’s unique 🙂
hahaha… I haven’t a clue, Michael.. the other night, before going to bed, I saw the carvings on a wooden box.. it had nothing to do with a heart or anything.. but I am thinking that’s how I got the idea.. 🙂 Hope you liked this one, my friend…
And yes, thanks a BUNCH for the appreciation… means a lot to me!!
xoxo
Living wood, beating as a heart; I love what yoo’ve created here.

Aww.. thanks a ton, Nimue dear!! Glad you enjoyed this one…
Oh, somehow I feel so sad for this wooden heart…somehow I think we all have hearts like that…and they are just left to burn. I love the creativity in this one, great work Kavs!
So true, S… at some point or the other, our hearts too assume such characteristics.. like the one made of wood… only left to burn… (sigh)
I only hope we are better at resurrecting our burnt hearts, than this poor wooden thing…
Glad you liked this poem so much, sweetie… thanks for each and every single word you have said here… means a lot to me!
Love this one, Kavita
Peace to you,
Laz
Gee.. thank you so much, Laz… I really appreciate your visits here, and your kind words…

Thank you ever so much, Jamie… that poor wooden heart.. I hope he gets a better and more peaceful afterlife ..
