This wee passing boat
Paints a lacy trail
Leaving me to think
Of a moment frail…
If only I’d seen
what that did entail
Birds are soaring high
Crying with delight
Taking me way back
To a glorious night…
If only I’d heard
My own sighs of fright
Forceful roaring waves
Lash out like a whip
My sweet memories
Left at sea to strip…
If only I’d felt
Tightness of its grip
Fragrances surround
Of a scented rose
Cause a smile to form
On my lips morose…
If only I’d sensed
Toxic overdose
This reflected light
Bouncing off the side
Causing me to squint
Into a recess wide…
If only I’d stayed
Untouched as a bride

Oh, those “if only’s.” If only we could stop second-guessing ourselves and move forward. You’ve rendered this poem very poignantly.
Kavita said:
You have put it very nicely, Vic! If only… (sigh)
But yes, we’ve got to move on already! 🙂
Glad you liked this poem, V.. thanks a ton for your kind and appreciative comments here… xoxo

There you are, Kavita! (Better late than never!)
Sounds like a bit of regret there… but life goes on.
Quite an emotional One Shot.
Kavita said:
This is emotional, alright, Eric… but a piece of fiction nonetheless 🙂
And ohhhhhhhhhhhhh yea! At One Shot, it’s okay to be later than never! Phheeww…CANNOT afford to miss it! 🙂

Wow, this is so powerful. It’s not easy to see a mistake before making it. So many learn that truth painfully. Really good One Shot, Kavita.
Thank you for visiting my entry and for your very kind comments.
Kavita said:
And then those mistakes haunt you!! Yet, there is an innate tendency to repeat them later as well! I wonder why.. and more so, HOW! 🙂
Thank you for your insights here, Patti.. they are invaluable to me! I am glad you liked this poem so much..

The old “marry in haste, repent in leisure” thing. Well done, Kavita.
Kavita said:
hahah.. well said, Jamie! Thankfully for me, this poem is a piece of fiction (again).. But I am pretty darned sure not everybody can say that for themselves too.. I wish they could though!
Thanks for your appreciative words here, my dear Jamie.. you sure know how to keep me going!
Love ya loads for that!

Dear Kavita
Great imagery and beautiful feeling … (one thing … “Crying” with delight seemed kind of not gelling… just my thought… delight goes with happy words, where as here you are using ‘crying’ as in sound.. right?… just my thought…)
Thanks for sharing..

Hi Shashi.. thanks for your invaluable comments here .. I really appreciate it! “cries of delight” here meant those lovely chirps of birds .. to us, they sound like cries.. but in reality, they are delightful songs for the birds! 🙂 Umm.. I hope I made sense ..
But really, thank you for your kind and encouraging words here… they mean a great deal to me!

Your words took me back to my History..
It doesn’t bother any much cause I have written all about that in My Blog.. Of things I had never shared with anyone. You know I received so much support that it almost balanced the hurt and pain!!
As I write this teary eyed here.. I am happy I have kept all of that as a Past Stance!
I had never held it against myself, but writing it over made me fee as if those things never had happened..
Only I didn’t smoke. I still don’t.. 🙂
Very heartfelt and touching..
This is not the 1st time. Your words have often taken me back in the time- now I smirk recalling all about those!!
Lovely weekend xoxox
Kavita said:
Ohh.. I think I understand how must have felt when reading this one, sweetie… But I am happy for you now!! I KNOW you are beyond your (unpleasant) past.. and I am very sure you will love what you have now!
All I can say is, I am here for you, babes!! Huuuuuge hugs to you!! Ummm… did you get a nasty dream, of someone clutching at you, trying to hold you tight? Errrr.. Sorry, that was me! It was too dark in there.. I just tried to hug whatever I though was you! 🙂
Loviezzzz

the if only’s – liked how you put them in a different color – made your poem feel like a dialogue and allowed us a glimpse into her heart…really nicely done
Kavita said:
It was actually meant to be like a conversation, Claudia.. with self! I am glad you aw it that way too… Thanks for the kind words here, dear friend…

words each have their meaning …grammar doesnt need to have meaning… thats why they created rhymes… and this whole poem makes it feel real everytime 😀
Kavita said:
I am sure there are bits of reality in this for everyone, W.. at least some point or the other…
Well, I am glad you can appreciate the meaning in the words here… after all, words are what we poets have! 🙂
Thanks for your insights here, wiser.. it’s very nice of you..

a lifetime is relatively short and yet, hm, seems rather long at times, especially when one is spending a lot of time on Regrets Boulevard… or is it Review Promenade? – so we can do better next time? I do believe in second chances…
Kavita said:
hehe.. well said, Ruth… that boulevard is too narrow and full of potholes! 🙂 I too believe (in fact I dwell on) second chances 😉 – thankfully!
Thanks for your insights here, my dear.. you are too sweet!!!
ds said:
If onlys…a person could drown in them. Nicely done. I feel for her, and hope she is not you!
Kavita said:
Ohh.. no, it’s not me, alright!! Thanks for the concern though, ds.. it’s veyr kind of you..
She is a character of my imagination, I suppose.. I wonder why I imagine such things 🙂
But anyway, I am glad you liked this poem, my dear..thanks for your kind words, and your insights here… they are much appreciated!

This isn’t the style of verse I could ever do myself, but you do it well–it seems very simple, yet carries all kinds of loaded phrases and images. It surprised and pleased me very much. Don’t know how I missed this one Wednesday, but thanks for dropping by my place so I was able to find it.
Kavita said:
Ohhh.. as long as you liked what you read here, it’s all okay by me, my dear 🙂 Thanks a BUNCH for your appreciation towards this piece.. Really, I am very happy you liked it so much! Your encouraging words mean a ton to me!! Thankoooooooooozzz
As for dropping by your place, that is entirely my pleasure! 🙂

I really liked this. I got a sense of where it was going really early on even though you don’t say anything overly explicit that would give the end away. Very well crafted work. You have an amazing ability to lead your readers down a path when they read your work.
Kavita said:
When the readers are like you, Mark, nothing needs to be explicitly stated! You truly have a poet’s mind… and that goes for your writing AND reading capacities!!
Thanks for the kind words (I know I sound repetitive.. but really, I mean EXACTLY this right now).. they really mean a lot to me! I need all the encouragement I can get!! 🙂 As for the buildup in the poem, well, a life of regrets is indeed quite an unpleasant one.. (sigh).. thankfully, it was all fiction here…

Kavita said:
Wowowow!! That’s quite a compliment, DP! THANK YOU!!! And to think that it all started with a ray of light getting reflected off of a highrise window 🙂 Muses fid their ways.. don’t they?!?! Glad you liked this piece so mush, dearie…

Thanks for stopping by, sweetie… love ya loads!! I am yet to write a super long email to you! That should happen some time over the weekend… hehehe
Lazy me!! Please understand, will ya?! 🙂 xoxooxox

Hey Kavita – no worries about any email….it’s enough to touch base on blogland whenever we can, as I know we’re both really busy. When we have more time we can afford that luxury of writing long emails 🙂
I’ve been pretty engrossed with Mr. C – how did you guess?? LOL …plus sorting out loads of house-type things – very boring but necessary 😀 The snow is really bad over here – what’s it like in New York?
Miss you girl and hope you are happy, happy, HAPPY 🙂 xx
