A big task, Conversation with an asphyxiator, Fire extinguisher, Magpie Tales, Metaphor, Responsibility, Who is responsible?, Whose job is it?, Will it work?
Landslides here, wildfires there
Oil erupting up into the air
Can you douse it all, we ask
He replies, “This is not for me to do.
Respect your earth, and she will too”
The burning homeless, with futures bleak
This blind faith in minds so weak
Can you douse it all, we ask
He replies, “This certainly ain’t my duty.
When secular and free, you’ll find beauty”
Fumes of toxic business smoke
Arose as a wealthy magnate spoke
Can you douse it all, we ask
He replies, “This sure is not my call.
The pit is deep. I can’t break your fall”
Growing hatred inside of us
The ruthless slaying and massacres thus
Can you douse it all, we ask
He replies, “This has never been my job.
You started it all. You are the mob”
Hearts blazing, like corpses on pyre
Filthy heaps of dark desire
Can you douse it all, we ask
He replies, “This is not my usual thing.
I fight with death, and save the living”
** My contribution for this week’s Magpie Tales π **
Unbelievable! Tremendous! Awesome! I don’t have enough superlatives…I’m blown away.
Whoa! Thanks a ton, girl! Your words of appreciation mean the world to me!!!
I am certainly very happy you liked this read…
Hope you are having a beautiful week! π
Great Magpie Kavita, you hit the nail on the head with this, there is so much do to out there, whose job is it, no jobs, homeless, war, etc, etc -the flow and repeat phrase just right…bravo..bkm
Thanks a bunch, bkm… I just wrote it as it came into my head…
All the exploitation, the oppression, wars, all of those and more… and we think it is for someone to eradicate..who is the “someone” ? The politicians? The soldiers? The social workers? This blame game goes on… and in the end, we all lose..
I am definitely glad you liked this poem! It was my first ever Magpie! Story from just a picture is quite challenging.. phew! π
Have a great week ahead!
Thanks K-
Thanks, Jack…
Hope you enjoyed the read (well..one cannot really “enjoy” it per-se…and yet I ask!) π
Have a great week ahead!
I sit here wondering whether our leaders will provide the relief for the unemployed as promised, and since no real prospects for work exist because there are no jobs, regardless of my talent, willingness, experience, or desire. As uncertainty about health issues which cannot be resolved without benefits, or subsidized healthcare from a system I have paid into all my life, yet somehow do not qualify for, It is difficult sometimes to maintain focus and not succumb.
It comes as a comfort that the reminders WHY to not do so come from nowhere=and everywhere as long as I pay attention. Thanks-
I hear you, Jack! And I echo your absolute cogitations…
We can still continue to do what we believe we are good at, while not adding to the spoilage around…
And then, like they say, what goes around, comes around. But the more interesting questions still prevail – Who? When? How?
I hope such minuscule voices are heard somewhere and heeded to… There are fire extinguishers everywhere. We just need to pick the right and full ones I suppose…
Thanks for your valuable thoughts and comments… They are much appreciated!!!
Best Regards!
so many powerful words fly out of the page,

WOW!! Thanks, Amanda.. Your words always leave me blushing and giggling π THANKOOOOOZ
Magpie Tales is this superb challenge wherein you are given a picture/image/photograph, and you need to write a story/poem/whatever based on what comes to your mind on seeing that image.. It’s very interesting.. and you should check it out too… The link’s on my post, just in case… They have a couple rules, and Tuesday 8.00AM EST is their deadline..
This was my first and nervous week in Magpie Tales.. I usually write whatever comes to my mind :)… and am not accustomed to building my poems based on images π Hence, it was a fun challenge to me… I still wrote what came to my mind, but this time, I wrote what came to my mind on seeing an image!
Pheww… I almost bored you with my lecture there!!! π
You enjoy a sweet week ahead, girl! Lovies and huggies!!!!
wow. quite the stirring verse…whose job is it? we can not wait for someone to rise up, when we have strength left to give…it is the small decisions we make each day, to touch a life or turn away….nice write.
Thanks, Brian.. Am glad you liked this read…
Yes, whose job is it? It’s ours if we want it to be, and if we want to assume ownership of the situation. In how big or small a way we contribute, it really doesn’t matter.. what matters is indeed, doing it! It WILL turn out right!
Thank you for your appreciation and your invaluable comments..they mean a lot to me!
Enjoy a beautiful week ahead!
Great piece…thought provoking and powerful.
Am happy you liked this piece, Willow… And thank you for your visit, and kind comments..

Profound words here, Kavita. Respect the earth…I can’t break your fall…you started it all…I fight with death and save the living…Loved the message here so clearly spoken. Wonderful 1st magpie…you are already a pro at it! Heartspell
Thank you so much for your lovely words for me and my work here, Heartspell… I am elated!
Yes, we can be the extinguishers of a lot of the unpleasantness we see around us, in our small ways… but only if we choose to take responsibility for this lovely earth we live in! Don’t you think so… ? Sometimes I really wonder.. do we even care?
Anyway, am glad you liked this poem…
Have a wonderful and gorgeous week ahead!! π
Some of us really do care…now, we just have to convince the others, right?
You bet !!! And convincing is kinda tough.. but we’ll keep trying I suppose..
You are a very good poet Kavita.
Thank you so very much, Cindy!! You are too kind…
Have a happy and bright week ahead!

we humans have buggered this beautiful world completely …
Thank you for stopping by, Bikram.. and for your kind words too…
Maybe the inevitable can only be stalled and not stopped… but the question, do we even try to ? π Who knows.. some simple efforts could work wonders!
Have a bright and beautiful week ahead! π

Thanks Jess! I am happy to know you liked this poem…
It was so easy to write this piece, and yet so tough .. if you get what I’m tryin’ to say here … The ideas were all in my head (cuz, sadly, these needn’t be imagined π¦ ) but bringing them out was a small challenge by itself! Thank you for appreciating my work here …
Have a lovely week ahead!
There is a respectful tone to your lines. You have such a wonderful way with words, Kavita. Love reading your work. thanks

-Weasel
Thanks a ton for appreciating my work, SW ! I am glad you liked this piece here…
I saw the image, and this came to my head in a flash, and spread like .. well.. like fire indeed !
Have a great week ahead!
So powerful and moving. I just left another blog where the author had written about how overwhelming it is to see how much need there is in the world and where to even begin.
Another perfect piece!
Oh yea, Debbie.. When one begins to see the need in the world for things we take for granted, one realizes the state of affairs! And it’s not a pretty sight!
I am happy you liked this poem, and thank you so much for your kind words of appreciation towards it… I am honored!
Have a gorgeous week ahead!
Amazing poetry!! You really hit some big issues right on the head. Great job!
Thanks a bunch, adk !!! It was sad to touch upon these issues, and realize that they very much exist… but sometimes, one just feels like it! Maybe it was just my little way of holding that extinguisher, and trying to pull the pin …
But I am happy you liked this read…
Have a fantastic week ahead!
wow i have no words 4 ur this poem
its lovely
Awww… thank you so much, Rida! I am happy you liked this poem…
Have a beautiful week ahead!!! Enjoy!
This was truly moving Kavita- good job! So strong and gripping, I loved this poemβ¦
I am very happy to see that you liked this piece, Lua! And thank you soooo very much for your kind words of encouragement and appreciation…
It was not so easy writing this one.. esp. cuz I once again got reminded of the harsh realities of existence and of our current world! But it also felt good to write it. Maybe it was my own way of venting out, and my own way of being a teeny little fire fighter myself π
Have a fabulous week ahead!
u write pretty well.. im not good at writing to put in amazing words to praise ur work..
it is really a good.. also ur other work..
btw wht is “magpie tales”
Awww.. thanks a bunch, Vaishali !!! It’s very kind of you to regularly visit my blog and appreciate my work .. I am flattered!
Magpie Tales is a blogging community wherein we are to use our imagination based on a picture prompt.. It’s quite interesting! You could write poems/short stories/you name it! Each picture is typically kept up for a week.. And the other interesting thing about it is, you get to read the works submitted by different writers/bloggers/poets and it’s quite amazing to see the varied perceptions of the same image! π
Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading the stuff around here… And have a fantastic week ahead!!! π
Wow, mindblowing! So dark, and so true and so sad. Such powerful words. I think this is one of your best that I have read. Keep writing!
Whoa!! Thanks a ton, girl! I am very happy you liked this one…
It’s always a pleasure and an honor getting comments from you! I look up to your work, and any appreciation from you is absolutely invaluable! So, once again, thanks for the encouragement.. π
And yes, the ways of this world are quite sad indeed.. I suppose this was my own little way of playing firefighter…
Have a lovely week ahead!
Wow.. you make accurate choice of words.. I like the flow of your poetry…:) it was a good read ..again!!!
Oooohhh… thank you so much for your kind words Surbhi ! Glad you liked you liked this one… too ! π
I think I am in love with versing as well … yaaayyyy π
Have a beautiful week ahead, girl!!!
That you took a picture of an old fire extinguisher and came up with what you did – pretty much the sad history of humanity – shows you are are remarkably deep caring person.
(And I am not sure where to take the Scheherazade story, so I am stuck, sorry… my mind keeps coming back to something meta-fictional… But can you give me a word – one word, any word – to jumpstart my mind on the next chapter? I promise I will use it, and get back to it, although perhaps slowly)
Thank you so much for your kinds words of appreciation towards my work, Lawrence. But I certainly cannot take credit for the picture of the old fire extinguisher. Yes, I wrote this poem based on the picture. But that’s the idea behind Magpie Tales, which is all about being given a picture prompt, and then using your imagination over the given picture…
Coming back to the theme for this poem, the ways of our world today definitely do not look promising. But then, I suppose we can be firemen too, albeit in our own little ways… don’t you think?
As for Scheherazade, I am writing you an email π
Once again, thank you for the encouragement… And I hope you have a beautiful week ahead!
Have a fun day!
Glad to see so many people enjoying your talent!
I appreciated your encouragements in my blog on my story.
π
π
Thank you Jingle… I honestly believe that I owe all my readership to you… π
And as for your story writing ability, go on girl!!!Loved your latest one.. and I am sure you will roll ahead too !! π
Happy Week!
Fabulously writ! Another interesting contest it would seem, and you have certainly done well with it. Strong flow that really moves a person. You did marvelous work with the prompt you were given–I certainly would not have thought of such a wonderful response!
WOW! Thanks a bunch for all those kind words, Chris… I am totally flattered! But those were the first thoughts when I saw the image..yes.
Well, Magpie is more of a community than a contest (this is my first shot at it, so I too am not so sure:).. but whatever it is, it’s really COOL!
Maybe you should try it sometime too… You never know what brilliance may spur from a glance at the image ! π
I am glad you liked this poem.. I really treasure your comments!!! Thank you once again ..
Have a fun week ahead!
Takes each one of us to make that little change… unfortunately, we live in a world where political will and corporate power decides what that change is… maybe some of us will make that change given a chance should we be less selfish and wise when we have the power to make the change π
Amen to every word you wrote there!!!
Change can be in any form (big or small doesn’t matter)… As long as each of us decides to promote that change, it will take place, albeit a bit later than expected π
I really appreciate you taking the time to put in your thoughtful comments (and here, I do not know how to address you :(.. so I will call you Navs for now..please correct me)…
Thank you so much!!!
Excellent, powerful piece. I think most people are too quick to place blame on someone else than see their own contributions to the problems we face and look for solutions. Or are too apathetic to care, as if nothing affects them. People need to work together instead of blaming each other for our problems.
You are so right, Gally!!! This blame game really sickens me!! At work, on the streets – EVERYWHERE! What’s the point of it!??!?! I really see no sense in blaming! If we spent that same energy on what-next rather than the who-dunnit, this trashcan of a world would’ve lived a bit longer, and in peace too… don’t you think?!
Phew… I got a little carried away there… π
Thanks a bunch for visiting my blog, and I am really glad you liked my work… your appreciation and thoughtful comments mean a lot to me!!!
Have a beautiful ahead, girl… take care..
Well…look at you. π No one will stop you now. π I am sooo happy to see this side of you. I love your writing. Keep it going strong. We are all impressed. π Do not get a big head now. lol π
heheheh… I am so glad you enjoy my writing, sweetheart! Makes me very very happy to learn this!! Yaaaaayyyyyyy…. And oh yea, I just checked my head in the mirror… it seems fine, and is not swollen! π
I owe my writing to you and my readers! Your comments, encouragement and appreciation towards my work keep me going!! It’s a very good feeling!! π
Luv ya, girl! And smile on…
Already looking forward to reading my today’s dose of “Doraz Says” !! π
(many hugs and kisses)
