Guided by the moonlight
And the lamps below
I bounced right off treetops
In through your window
You can but stare at me
I stand, a proud shadow on your wall
I smiled, waited for you
While you tossed and turned
You then looked towards me
Slumber you had burned
You can but stare at me
I stand, a handsome shadow on your wall
You tried hard to catch me
Flashing low and high
Slyly did I dodge you
My home’s in your eye
You can but stare at me
I stand, a cunning shadow on your wall
You blinked at me in awe
And gazed at my face
My branched and leafy form
Like patterns on lace
You can but stare at me
I stand, a mangled shadow on your wall
You spoke and you laughed
Happy as can be
Then I saw a teardrop
Hide beneath your glee
You can but stare at me
I stand, a kindly shadow on your wall
You may leave tomorrow
Or decide to stay
But I sure will love you
Through all night and day
You can but stare at me
I still stand, a mere shadow on a wall

What a mural. Quite simply: wonderful. I think I can see why this is a favorite of yours, Kavita. We are all a mixture of proud, handsome, cunning, mangled, kindly and mere … but still we stand.
Very fine work as always. Thank you!

Oh Jamie.. that shadow was just perfect… I mean, inspite of the poem and everything, I just cannot explain how beautiful an image it was!! And I can see it sooo clearly in my mind, even now! And it’s been over 6 months since we moved, and since I saw this shadow…
And you are so right… we too are just like it… a mixture of so many qualities… yet, we stand…
I am so happy you made that connection… it really is special..
Thank you Jamie.. your encouragement and soothing words are a delight to read! It’s my honor to have you here, reading my stuff, commenting on my posts.. it certainly is!!!

Dear Kavita,
The obvious delight in writing this poem and the wonderful emotions it brought forth are evident. But the structure and cadence of the poetry are also stunning.
The relationship between the one who stares and the shadow who stands is outstanding.
One of my favourites…

Oh… I am really glad you liked this poem, Ninotaziz.. cuz this one holds a very special place in my heart… I saw this shadow on the wall of my house, on the night before we were to move to another city.. and it was as if the shadow actually spoke to me.
And to be told (by someone as refined an artist as you) that this poem conveyed the meaning I had intended it to, is really a huge deal to me! Thank you ever so much!!
This poem will always remain one of my MOST cherished ones..
Thanks once again, dear..
Have a beautiful week!! xoxo
