For a long time now
I have been lugging
your dead weight around
It lies there
crippling my mind
rending my gut
cramping my style
weighing me down

And yet
I cannot leave it behind
Although
I cannot move ahead

I wish you’d just
Disintegrate
Incinerate
Evaporate
over the mountains
into grey dust
beneath the riverbed

I wish you’d just
bid me a tearless adieu
show me a weightless ray
and let me be

Cuz for a long time now
I have been lugging
your dead weight around…

  3. I hope you can let go, carrying a dead weight sooner or later can suck you down with it too.

As for being able to relate to this one, well, I can only hope that you are out of that phase/mode now… we all pass thru such annoying/lingering alleys of ennui, but eventually, most of us come out of it too… better sooner than later.. :) What say?

Hugs n Love coming your way…

  8. hedgewitch says:

The ones you want to leave never do–it requires a strong boot to the nether parts, in my experience. ;_) I have definitely been in this place–very glad to not be. As always, you sew it all up in a neat package for us, Kavita, and top it with a crazy image. Love it.

    • Kavita says:

I too am glad that you (and I) are out of that place, hedgewitch… :) and I hope we don’t land there again! Cuz it ain’t easy at all..

Glad you liked this poem, darling… Mwaahh!

  13. manicddaily says:

Yes, so hard to let go of these types of weights. Your repetitions show the difficulties.

    • Kavita says:

Thanks for the appreciation, my friend…

  14. Someone has said …”Great heroes need great sorrows and burdens, or half their greatness goes unnoticed.” Lovely poem fleur de-lis!

    • Kavita says:

      Aaahh..thanks, Blaga..
May those burdens never find their way to you, dear lady…

  15. Chris G. says:

We all carry our weights around…but sometimes the burden can overwhelm. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just toss them to the wind? But then…I suppose they help to shape us into the people we are…

    • Kavita says:

Oh yea, burdens too have their purpose, I suppose… to mold us into strong human beings! But the secret is handling them well while they are around, and later tossing them aside, and marching ahead! :) What say, Chris?
Hope you are having a great (and burdenfree) 2012, my friend.. :)
      Take care..

  16. oh so sad lugging your dead weight around it is hard when people do not try and help out and you carry them along well done

    • Kavita says:

Oh yea, Sarah.. this weight carrying business is hard indeed! But we really must try and learn how and when to let go of it.. but a little help from others is most welcome too.. :)

You have a great year ahead, my friend.. and thanks a ton for your nice words and insights here… they are invaluable to me!

  17. Becky says:

This is really good… longing to let go but not being able to, yes.

    • Kavita says:

Aaahh.. I think we have been there at least SOME time, no?
Glad you liked how I have portrayed the past (and burden) here, Becky.. thanks a heap!
      xxx

  18. Teresa says:

Great write. Certainly some burdens are not meant to be carried. Mine is here. http://razzamadazzle.wordpress.com/2011/10/11/the-blood-moon/

    • Kavita says:

you can say that again, Teresa…some burdens are meant to be cast aside indeed! What say? :)

Thankfully, the burden’s not mine, Mary.. whew! But it is exhausting, alright… poor chap!

  21. deadpoet88 says:

Wonderful poem! And it really does go well with Atlas, doesn’t it? I’ve been away from blogging for a long long time. My writer’s block has gotten the better of me, feels like a heavy weight that I wish to cast aside. :sigh. Everything I write these days sounds stupid to me, and most find the dustbin.

    How have you been?

    • Kavita says:

Thanks, sweets… I am doing great! But as usual, I’m suffering from writer’s block (again), and a mild attack of cold too now.. ugh!
Hope your photography is coming along good…
      Hugs n Love!

  22. Uma says:

True..haha..sometimes if only we are who we ought to be.. days we can’t move a stone without any barrier such thoughts do arise in mind..let go is a easy word to say *thinking*

    • Kavita says:

you can say that again, Uma! Letting go is easier said than done! But then again, there is no better remedy to sadness than letting go and acceptance.. no?
thanks for your thoughts and insights here, lady… I really appreciate that…

Wish you a wonderful year ahead!!

    your dead weight around…

Who is carrying.. you are Kavita… throw it.. just like that.. don’t even turn to see what happens.. life is a lot more beautiful than this… can say that because have been trying to come out of past with effort and getting guided by Power of Now by Ekhart Tole..

Miss your feedback.. have completed two years and 400 posts the same day incidently..

Take care.. hope all is fine and well..

    Ramesh Sood

    • Kavita says:

Oh no no noooooo, Rameshji… I wasn’t really carrying all this burden around :) THANKFULLY!
But somebody was.. I hope he learns (sooner better than later) that life is much more richer than he gives it credit for.. what say? :)

It’s good to know that you too are leaving your past behind you, and looking ahead with a new outlook.. there is a reason it’s called “past” :)

I wish you a beautiful 2012, Rameshji.. and a million thanks for your ever appreciative feedback here…
      (hugs)
